07/15/2006 - Invasive Weed Pull Service Project
Saturday, July 15 - Weed Pull Day - 8:30 AM- 1:00PM - Please join us for a fun day on our local National Forest lands! Volunteers are needed to help pull invasive plant species in the White River National Forest, including musk thistle and false chamomile. We will meet at 8:30 AM at the Dillon Ranger District Office in Silverthorne for bagels, coffee, and an education segment on noxious weeds by The Summit County Weed Program. From there, we will carpool to our site location which will be the same National Forest site north of Silverthorne as the past two years. Snacks and beverages will be provided at the end of the workday tailgate party (around 1-ish).

Volunteers should dress for a day outdoors - bring work gloves, layered clothing including long pants and long sleeved shirt, sturdy boots, water, sunglasses, sun hat, sunscreen, rain gear, and insect repellent.

RESULTS FOR Sat..7/15/2006... Forest Weed Pull
Beard, Sandi; Bitler, Joel; Bitler, Mern; Caren, Stu; Cohen, Jay; Cox, Maggie; Fox, Karen; Frank, Charlie; Frank, Sheila; Fussell, Am; Fussell, Scott; Hassinger, Nancy; Hopkins, Becky; Johnson, Shari; Leilich, Bob; Leilich, Joann; McHenry, Sue; Newton, Rick; Reinking, Christy; Reinking, Tyler; Roberts, Marie; Robinson, Virgil; Steuer, Kurt; Van Howe, Kenny; Wineland, Troy
These 25 volunteers, 1 Forest Service representative, and 1 Summit County Weed Program representative generated 100 hours of volunteer stewardship for our National Forest lands. They pulled two truckloads of Scentless Chamomile, Musk Thistle, and other invasive weed species. By pulling these weeds they helped control the spread of the non-native plant species in Summit County and the White River National Forest, thus improving the habitat for both wildlife and native plant species. A special thanks goes out to our sponsors - Safeway, City Market, and Blue Moon Bakery - for providing us with the highly enjoyed treats at the beginning and end of the day! Remember to support our sponsors on your next food and beverage run!
