DRD HAPPENINGSDistrict Ranger Update - The DRD and FDRD welcome Scott Ludwig as the Acting District Ranger for the District. Ludwig joins us from the Rocky Mountain Regional Office and will start on March 3 for this four month position. We look forward to working with Scott in the upcoming months. Grant Update - The DRD has unofficially received a state trails grant for Trail Condition Surveys, subject to final approval by the Colorado State Trails Board. These surveys will provide essential planning and scouting of 220 miles of trails for future trail maintenance and reconstruction needs. Environment Presentation to Leadership Summit Class - Paul Semmer, Dillon District Ranger, and Scott Fussell, FDRD's new Board President, presented at the Leadership Summit Program's February Environment Session. Semmer educated the participants on the history of the USDA-FS and introduced them to various local environmental issues that the DRD addresses through multi-stakeholder collaborative processes. He then presented a current issue case study to the class, travel management in the Golden Horseshoe area, assigning a stakeholder group to each participant. Each group presented solutions to the class, simulating the benefits (and challenges) of collaborative multi-stakeholder processes in conflict resolution. Fussell discussed ways to get involved in local environmental issues, including FDRD efforts. The presentation was very well received and several participants expressed interest in future involvement in FDRD efforts. Thank you to Semmer and Fussell for your DRD/FDRD ambassador efforts to this group of local leaders! Leadership Summit Program, in its third year, is a nine month leadership training program designed to cultivate and inspire collaborative leaders for a better Summit County.
