| Hello Friends of FDRD, I hope you have all “carved out” some time to enjoy this plethora of snow – what great fun it’s been to play in it! The general consensus around the county is, “Where did January go?” FDRD feels the same way – last month was a blur of activity - we set our dates for our 2006 Summer Volunteer Season and have started to compile the 2nd Annual Summit County Summer 2006 Volunteer Calendar. We are finalizing our strategic plan and will present it to our Advisory Board and the community in March. In addition, FDRD is very pleased to announce a new addition to our team - Scott Fussell. Scott joins us as our Volunteer Coordinator. With 300% growth in FDRD project volunteerism in 2005, and similar expected growth with our 2006 events, Scott’s role is very important to FDRD! Scott comes to us with a strong background in natural resource management and currently is employed with Keystone Resort’s Environment Department and with Keystone Science School. FDRD is very excited to work with Scott – his energy and passion are sure to guide us into a successful future. Please join us as we welcome Scott to our team! Read on to learn how and when you can join us in our 2006 events. If you have any feedback, suggestions, and ways to improve this newsletter, please share them with me. ENJOY!!

WHAT’S HAPPENED Volunteers For Colorado (VOC)/FDRD Crew Leader Training – VOC recently approached FDRD with the possibility of co-hosting an annual crew leader training in Summit County. Last month, we decided it would be an excellent opportunity for both partners involved, as well as for Summit County and local organizations with trail crew needs. July 7, 8, and 9 marks this summer’s crew leader training. Both individuals and organizations are encouraged to participate in this exciting training and education opportunity. Details about the training will be forthcoming. FDRD is very excited to grow our partnership with VOC and looks forward to similar collaborative efforts with other local organizations. Contact Guff Van Vooren if you are interested in this opportunity. FDRD 2006 Summer Event Schedule Set – It’s measuring up to be another fun, productive summer of service projects, stewardship programming, trail days, and training. Please refer to Dates To Remember Section below for a complete FDRD listing of volunteer opportunities. We hope you will consider joining us this summer in giving back to our local National Forest lands. 2nd Annual Summit County Summer 2006 Volunteer Calendar – We have started to compile this comprehensive listing of volunteer opportunities in natural resource management. Last year, 23 organizations participated in this calendar, and we hope even more will do so this year. Look for this calendar to role out in May. We hope it is a useful resource to you as you determine ways to give back to Summit County by participating in the volunteer efforts of the many wonderful non-profit organizations in our community! |
