Hello Friends of FDRD!

Wow, what a great summer it’s been, and the rain this month has been icing on the cake!  I’m looking forward to more outdoor fun this fall – with the changing of the aspens just around the corner!  September brings with it FDRD’s Volunteer Celebration Day, so mark your calendars for Saturday, the 10th.  It’s our day to celebrate all of you who have made our service projects this summer so successful!  Your opportunities for volunteering don’t stop there, though - check out www.dillonrangerdistrict.com/fdrd/htm for the Summit County Summer 2005 Volunteer Calendar and a complete list of opportunities remaining through October.

If you have any feedback, suggestions, and ways to improve this newsletter, please share them with me.  ENJOY!!

WHAT’S HAPPENING

Saturday, September 10, Volunteer Celebration Day – 9:00 – 2:30 - Please join in on the fun!  This is a day for all of us to celebrate you and the support you have provided to FDRD throughout this summer.  The day will include a small project followed by a volunteer picnic celebration.  We hope you can join us for both, but if you can only make it for part of the day, please come, we would love to see you!  We will meet at Dillon Ranger District at 8:45 and will spend the morning at Sapphire Point, working on trail maintenance and restoration.  At noon, we will head down to the Windy Point pavilion for the volunteer picnic celebration.  Dress for a day outdoors - dress in layers, bring water, work gloves, long pants and long-sleeved shirt, sturdy boots, sunglasses, sun hat, rain gear, sunscreen, insect repellent, lots of enthusiasm, and your favorite FDRD service project memory!  Contact Troy Wineland at troywineland@comcast.net or 970-485-2961 to RSVP for this service project and/or volunteer picnic celebration.

Service Project Team – Can’t make it on the 10th, but would still like to help out?  Be a part of the team that makes this fun day happen!!  This effort includes:

Saturday, August 6– Fire Mitigation Day – Just when you think it can’t get any better!! Another round of applause goes out to FDRD’s stellar volunteers who joined in on the fun at our Fire Mitigation Day.  These 25 volunteers and 6 Forest Service personnel generated 113 hours of volunteer stewardship for our local National Forest lands.  They cleared fuels on approximately one acre, generating 45 slash piles.  By clearing this area, they helped to decrease the risk of fire in the wildland urban interface in the Wildernest area of Summit County.   A special thanks goes out to our sponsors - New Belgium Brewery, Safeway, Inxpot, and Keystone Resort– for providing us with much-deserved, delicious treats at the beginning and end of the day!  Remember to support our sponsors on your next food and beverage run!
